Red Wing City Map...

The Red Wing vicinity has been well explored and populated for centuries.  Red Wing, named for Chief Wing of the Dakota Indians, really got started in 1851 when sufficient activity existed to warrant the establishment of a post office.  River boat traffic, and the milling industry, propelled the communities development.

Pottery and shoes are what have made Red Wing famous.  The pottery and clay tile manufacturing was made possible with the discovery of high quality clay deposits south of town.  Shoes by the millions are still made by the Red Wing Shoe Company.  The downtown areas and Pottery District are well developed, historic commercial districts.  A walking tour brochure of the city is available locally.  The City offers a complete range of services and facilities.
